Nokia 7.2 - Complete Review, Specifications, Comparisons & Price - In Nigeria

This is the Review of the Nokia 7.2. It has for a while now been making it's fans happy. But what really makes this device unique from others?
It is a device that was launched September, 2019 and with its hype around I decided to obtain a unit to give Nokia a trail because as always a trial Will convince you.

I have been with Nokia as an OEM for decades not until they sold their birthright to Lumia controlled by Microsoft and then many of us had to switch to other brands since Nokia  originally rejected Android as an OS and aligning themselves with Lumia.
But they are back couple of years ago and are making waves around the globe and Nigeria with their new devices.

So what does Nokia 7.2 has over other devices from other brands? Journey with me as I unleashed my review based on user experience.

INTRODUCTION TO THE Nokia 7.2

Nokia  as we used to know them are not usually fans of big, huge and heavy device and based on this they have to cut corners in reducing some departmental aspects such as battery size and screen sizes. Hence the reason why Nokia devices used to be light in weight.

I would want to say that in terms of UI Optimization Nokia is one of the based in the customisation department which is why their devices are always fast in terms of operations.
So what.akes this device unique is just it's light weight accompanied with a new camera technology called Zeiss Optics one of its kind in the ability and performance of camera.

So if you are looking for a less weighty device with a moderate performance then say no more because here it is.

In summary the Key Specs

  • SCREEN = 6.67" 1080 x 2280 pixels
  • WEIGHT = 180 g
  • MAIN CAMERA = 64MP 108)p
  • PLATFORM = Android 9.0 (Pie), upgradable to Android 10, Android One
  • RAM = 4/6 GB RAM
  • STORAGE = 64/128GB
  • CHIPSET = Snapdragon 660 Octa-core processor

HERE IS THE FULL REVIEW OF THE Nokia 7.2

Once you know the Features to consider before buying any smartphones, then you decision making process will become very easy. As an individual your areas of considerations may differ in some ways than mine, those are the reason I put together that list.

If you remember 1 made a compilation of devices you could get anywhere in the world and Nigeria in particular Below N100k and prominent devices with better processors were listed why some weren't listed at all.

Why? Because they have crossed the threshold of N100k and frankly speaking they should not have, but they have. So as an unbiased decision they were completely cut out.

If am to make an ambiguous remark on this device, the statement would be simple; this is an over priced device. Let's consider the Specifications individually.

DISPLAY

The Nokia 7.2 has a 6.3 inch display that is equal to the likes of Redmi note 7 pro and Redmi Note 8itself. It has a moderate screen size that could be operated with a single hand but better with both hands to avoid sudden accident. It is a very clear Display made of LCD full high definition.

It has an almost 83% screen to body ratio so great right? It means the device has just a little extra layer of body attached to the screen size making the device slim and easy to hold and operate.

A 1080 by 2280 is the pixel display which is high enough for a 6.3 inches display. The display clearity of this device is absolutely smooth. It has a brightness level rated at about 400 nits with a ppi density of about 400.

On the screen is a water drop cut out for the front facing camera. I would say that Nokia  borrowed this design from Redmi Note 8 or vice versa because Redmi Note 8 was released a month earlier that the Nokia 7.2.

In all the overall front view and design on the screen is attractive. This screen should be okay for moving watching or streaming and other stuffs that could be carried out based on screen factors.

CHIPSET OR MICROPROCESSOR

This area of considerations is where I want to dwell a bit. The processor here is a Snapdragon Processor, cool right?
But what baffles me is the Chipset used. A Snapdragon 660 was used here which is less efficient when compared with the likes of Redmi Note 8 or Oppo Realme C3.

Nokia  should have opted for a better processor but instead chose this but at what cost? that I will speak about under the price section.

In terms of gaming this process will game but don't expect anything serious from it because it will disappoint you just the way am disappointed right now.

Social media usage, light Gaming, video streaming all went well reason due to a better UI optimization process which Nokia is good with. A UI that is less affected by bugs.
So if you want to buy this device based on processor then I would ask you to look elsewhere

STORAGE And RAM

Storage capacity on the device is of two variant, the first being the 64GN variant and the second being the 128GB variant. In terms of storage this device has enough to cater for your data saving need and coupled with the dedicated SD CARD SLOT It comes as a welcome boost as the storage capacity can be enhanced and increased. Get your self and SD CARD fellas.

RAM: RAM in most cases determine the multitasking level of a device such as switching from one app to the other and meeting it where you left off. This device has that ability as it was able to serve that purpose without problems. The 4GB and 6GB RAM aided that especially the 6GB RAM Variant I tested with.

The only downside was returning to an open app left off about 2 minutes back. The app had to reload the page which I was not happy about.

mygistpoint

In all the Storage and Ram department scored high points without deductions. So don't think twice when going for this device in terms of storage facilities.

MAIN CAMERA

The rear camera set-up on this device is a triple camera which includes
48 MP for wide capturing purposes which could cover alot of distance
8 MP is for ULTRA wide purposes covering a lot of angles standing in a particular position. It's performance was noticing.

5 MP is used for depth sensing retaining a lot of information and details after several number of zooms
The rear camera is said to used a Zeiss Optics technology. Every tiny bit details was captured but not everyone though because as much as the device has a 48mp main camera doesn't mean it's picture is perfect.

There are better pictures being taken by a higher mega pixel cameras although number of mega pixel doesn't mean a better picture quality. HDR pictures were produced with video quality recording capped at 1080p@30fps

mygistpoint

SELFIE CAMERA

A generously 20MP Zeiss Optics camera was used as the front facing camera large enough to be used as front facing camera. It's quality was great capturing images at better quality and recording videos at 1080p@30fls. Video recording had a real toll on the battery though as it drain out as a fast as lightning

PLATFORM OR OS

Nokia is known as one of the best in UI Customisation and optimizations giving their products smoother operational processes. The  Android 9.0 (Pie) with Android one UI also abducted by Samsung is the main focus here. This OS VERSION would add extra layer of juice to the battery life as it is already doing.

This android version is upgradable to Android 10 which is being rolled out already. In terms of update Nokia  promises a three years continuous security updates including higher Android versions.
So in terms of OS this is an option for you. In this department brands like Xiaomi, Samsung, Oppo are leaving no stone unturned.

mygistpoint

CONNECTIVITY

This device has a WLAN support or better still a WiFi connection support. Added to this is a Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity which is great. Then a GPS connectivity used for pinpointing locations.

It has the near field connection NFC for online transaction within close proximity.  Also it has a Radio connectivity along with a USB type C port. Wow at least it is a welcome development from Nokia.
It's availability will add extra speed to the device's charging speed and data transfer speed.

SECURITY

The Nokia 7.2 has a fingerprint reader or scanner at the rear just below the camera set-up. It is reachable and was very fast during usage. You won't be disappointed with it's performance if you opt for this device. Other means of security includes the Pin, pattern, password and face unlocking which is not that secure. So in this department, security is security and your device will be fully secured if configured correctly.

BATTERY

We'll pardon me,  I won't used the word whopping on this one. It is a lightweight 3500mAh battery was used on this device which at this present time is a downside to me honestly speaking. As advertised on their official website it could last about 2 days on a single charge. We'll, probably on a intermittent light operations because the device I used , I was able to drain this battery within 8 hours of heavy usage and 6 hours of gaming.

So in terms of battery and considering the nature of our environment especially those in Nigeria, I know users of this device would be complaining of power backup alot. But as a light user this device would serve you adequately. The reason for the light weight on this device is due to the little battery size on it. So if you are a battery monger then you might want to have a rethink on this device.

DESIGN LANGUAGE

I would say that the design language is absolutely fantastic. Nokia  crafted this device beautifully with great curves, edges and camera looping. The colours also added more beauty to it.
But I would say that this is a photocopy or carbon copy of the Redmi Note 8 design language. So I don't know if am to rate them or not. But in all it felt slim in the hand and could be used with one hand in case you have long fingers.

mygistpoint

PROTECTION

A Corning Gorilla Glass 3 was used on the Nokia 7.2. not the best but it is manageable considering the fact that most OEMs doesn't used any form of Gorilla Glass on their devices at all. But Xiaomi is their king in terms of device protection

 PRICE

Guys, this is where I will hit the nail on the coffin. This device is still selling around N117, 000 in Nigeria for a device using a Snapdragon 660 Chipset, a 48ml camera, a 3500mAh battery just to mention a few.

Redmi Note 8 with the same screen size, better battery, Better camera combination but same camera size, better Chipset is currently and still selling at half the price of the Nokia 7.2. common how is these prices so so different up to this level. To be honest from the price point of view this device doesn't stand a chance to me.

It is overpriced and this might not bode well with Customers who are interested in this device. I can tell you any how who want to purchase this device based on Comparison and price will eventually be swayed away from choosing this device.

CONCLUSION

This is yet another device from Nokia . Yes, they are back but I would say that this is 2020 where there is a lot of competition between OEMs and their brands. It's either you are in or out. That's the slogan now.
A device features should match the pricing when it is released and in Comparisons with other devices.

This is an over priced device. But aside that, the overall performance of the phone is great. Mind you, am not castigating the brand or the device but just laying the fact based on hardware components and its price when compared to other brands.

So if you decide on purchasing this device then, it is a good choice because it would eventually serve you, not as a heavy user though but as a moderately light user.
