Oppo A92 - Complete Review, Specifications, Comparisons & Price - In Nigeria
Currently like I used to say “Oppo OEM are still gaining
grounds in Nigeria when you consider OEMs like Tecno, Infinix, Itel mobile, Samsung,
Xiaomi, Gionee, Nokia etc”.
What I can say about them is that they are trying their best
to see that they produce Mid range flagship devices that could suit the needs
of Nigerians. But the only challenge here is that there devices are not always budget
friendly maybe due to sponsorship and endorsement deals signed with
celebrities, in a way they have to recoup their money back and I can say maybe
via their products.
With that being said permit me to venture into the Review of
The Oppo A92 properly.
INTRODUCTION
The Oppo A92 was released globally in May 2020 but was
available in Nigeria around August 2020. The device as described is one of its
kind in terms of new technological display, large storage facility, fantastic
processor or chipset, yea fantastic, but do not get carried away because this
same processor was used a year ago by Xiaomi on their REDMI NOTE 8, yes you
heard me right. The already well known 48MP camera also.
So what is really different or unique about this device with
all the hype around it?
Well summarily these are its specifications
- Released Date = may, 2020
- Screen Size = 6.5 Inch 1080 by 2400 pixels
- Main Camera = 48MP Quad-camera setup 2160 Pixel
- RAM = 8GB
- Chipset = Snapdragon 665
- Battery = 5000mAh
As usual and as it is with my reviews I always compare
devices within the same range based on chipset, battery, screen size, camera
and overall performance. And it might interest you to know that Oppo A92 specifications are almost the same with that of REDMI NOTE 8 while the RedmiNote 9 has a slight better specifications that them both.
DISPLAY
The display on this device is a giant one, and you should
not be surprised about this because as from early 2019 almost all OEMs have
adopted the large screen sizes on their new devices and this is 2020 when
technological advancement is the order of the day.
Well all these are to the advantage of the end users.
A large 6.5 inch LCD capacitive touchscreen display is used
on the Oppo A92 with a screen to body ratio of about 92% not the best though. In
terms of the LCD I thought an Amoled screen would be better but it should not
pose a threat to the device.
The Pixel display is a 1080 by 2400 pixel Neo display, Kudos
to them and attached to this display is a 480 nits brightness level as
advertised. It means using this device under direct sunlight isn’t bad at all, but I was struggling trying to view what was on the screen when I was using
this device under direct high sunlight, and also when I switched to dark mode,
it was more difficult. But in all the display passes the normal display
capabilities
Furthermore on the
screen is a punch hole for the front facing camera placed at the top left
corner of the giant screen. This cut out added some beauty to the device overall
look,
Don’t forget that this device via ColourOS 7.1 has a pre
installed EYE Care settings to help users protect their eyes during long usage
or night usage. It is mostly called reading mode in MIUI.
So in the display department am really satisfied with this
device as gaming, Streaming and watching HD movies, reading PDF files , Surfing
the internet were smooth and enjoyable. This is a good one.
CHIPSET OR MICROPROCESSOR
Permit me to refresh your memory; A chipset is the control
centre of operation of any device. So it is responsible for/how a device
operates in terms of speed, durability, and output in all departments of an
electronic device. So you should be made aware that a chipset is very cardinal
and important especially when considering factors that should determine the
purchase of mobile devices.
Like I earlier mentioned, the chipset manufactured or
fabricated into this device is not a new chip. It was also used on Xioami Redmi
Note 8 and other familiar devices.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 (11nanometer) chip that is not power efficient
is used here. It is an Octa-core (CPU) processor with Adeno 610 Graphics Processing
Unit. Its performance is basically a moderate one as you would not expect it to
perform a higher tasks without hiccups.
This processor got Hot when gaming, I mean playing PES 2020,
PUGB and Asphalt 8. I also noticed that during long video recording and editing
this device based on this processor was seriously lagging.
Like seriously in other departments this processor did not
disappoint as it function exquisitely great.
MEMORY STORAGE AND RAM
I can categorically and affirmatively confirm and agree that
Oppo were really generous in this department of storage and RAM capacity fabricated
into this beautiful design.
INTERNAL STORAGE
The Internal storage of
this device IS 128GB ROM that could be used in storing media files like photos,
videos, files, etc. added to this is the installations of apps as many as you
can.
The good thing about this storage is an additionally
Dedicated SD CARD slot for the expansion of storage facility in case the 128Gb
Rom is not enough for you. This is really great and fantastic at the same time.
RAM
You should be aware that larger RAM sizes facilitate the
sweet and smooth operation of devices. It means RAM compliments the chipset in
its functionality.
A higher RAM and good OS optimization will allow you to
return to a previously operated app,
meeting it where you left it. While a low RAM and poor optimization will
restart an app whenever you abandon it for another app.
It simply means that Multi-tasking is always sweeter and hitches
free with larger RAM and a powerful Processor
With that being said, the RAM on this particular device is
an 8GB RAM WOW this is just so so cool but might come with an extra cost
though.
In terms of operation this department did not disappoint me
in any way as the device was smooth and result oriented performances.
PLATFORM/OS
The ColourOS 7.1 based on Android 10 the latest software
skin from Oppo Realme was used on this device. It was smooth to operate and
easy to navigate in terms of control and easy access to control panels.
This UI is one of the best UI around the globe when placed
side by side with MIUI, oneUI, XOS, HIOS etc.
But it remain to be seen if software updates could and would
be released from time to time to its users just like few brand does.
MAIN CAMERA
The camera of this device is a Quad-core camera set up the
same with that of Redmi Note 8 which includes the
- 48MP main camera used as wide camera.
- 8MP ultra wide camera supporting the 48MP camera
- 2MP for macro shots
- 2MP for depth sensing.
Am really impressed with this camera setup and the picture
quality and output did not disappoint in any way. The pictures were clear with
detail retention.
Video Recordings were made at 4K@30fps, 1080p@30/120fps,
good for a budget phone.

SELFIE CAMERA
The camera used in the front as front facing camera is the
16MP camera used on devices like the Redmi Note 9S and Redmi Note 9 Pro.
I can affirm that its performance were also great without
doubt whatsoever.
In the camera department, this device scored on a high. Recording
vidoes at 1080p @30fps. Although video recordings were having some interference
and washed-out background.
BATTERY
A 5000mAh non removable battery supporting an 18W fast charging
is the order of the day in this department. With this calibration it took this
device about 2 hours to fully charge from 0% - 100%, not that bad for a device
with a large battery. Although the latest Samsung M51 will be coming with a hug
7000mAh battery as reviewed here.
Here is the battery breakdown:
- Talk Time: About 34h but I was able to get Almost 24 hours
- Audio Playback: About 50h but I was able to get 24 hours
- Video Playback: About 7h same as my test
In terms of gaming though this battery lasted for about good
8 hours using high power demanding games. So this phone should serve a normal
user.
BUILD QUALITY
I can say that the build quality of this device is really
great with premium feel in the hand. Friends should be able to notice your
presence when you land with this phone. The protection used on this device was
not specified but it feels like a glass or polycarbonate material.
The body design language is about 3D design having a sweet
feel to the hands. The Height of this device is 162mm and the Width is 75.5mm
with a Thickness level of 8.9mm.
The phone is weighty though with a Weight of about 192g. but
that should not discourage you.
COMMUNICATIONS
The communications on this phone include a 1G to 4G network connectivity
at a high speed. It has a Bluetooth 5.0 modem, a wifi and Hotspot connections. Do
not forget that it has an FM radio connection too and GPS.
SENSORS
This device has a side mounted finger print sensor placed on
the power button. It was fast and responsive. You should get used to it when familiar
with this device.
Other sensors placed on this device includes,
- Magnetic induction
- Light sensor
- Proximity Sensor
- G-sensor/Acceleration sensor
- Which are all fast and responsive
EXTRA FEATURES
This device houses the usual traditional USB 2.0 port which is a drawback, It supports a 3.5mm jack port for earpiece and headphones, added to this is a down firing loudspeaker, a micro phone for calls and audio recording, a volume rocker at the top near the power button and fingerprint sensor. The aim tray is a triple tray for dedicated SD card slot. Not forget the earphones was loud enough during phone calls
COLOURS
The beautiful colours include:
- Twilight Black,
- Shining White,
- Aurora Purple

CONCLUSION
In all ramifications this is s great device even though the processor is a bit outdated but the price tag on this device turned me off.
One should not be purchasing brand, instead we should be purchasing devices at a price rate considerably normal across all brands.
OPPO should not forget that there are brands like Xiaomi, Samsung, Tecno, INFINIX, Nokia still around with greater competition.
So if you are gunning for this device then you should exactly know why you are going for this device but in terms of budget and also performance I would choose redmi note 8 over this device and save some bucks for myself. Thanks
